Fernie is the place that will forever be my “home”. Nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, it stays true to the quaint mountain village feeling yet the diversity of activity and people creates a unique and inspiring buzz.

Being a true “Fernieite” almost merits you celebrity status in the current international culture of the town. Where once I slurred all six letters into one, knowing that nobody would recognize my roots, I now proudly enunciate each syllable just enough so anyone who asks, knows exactly where I am from.

Fernie is one of those places in the world that has the potential to harbour the greatest athletes, the next world leaders and the innovators of the newest sports. It truly exemplifies the meaning of community. Throughout its multiple transitions over the last couple of decades it has manage to keep its roots and its values. The town needed to grow as tourism started to play a bigger role in the valley and that it did. Today it is a perfect example of rebirth, rejuvenation and revitalization.

There are so many activities and opportunities in this tiny town of 5,000 people. It may be small in number but this town has heart and soul. This is the reason why the Emily Brydon Youth Foundation has succeeded thus far and will continue to grow into the future. Whenever you find yourself a little overwhelmed by life and its demands, take a little detour on Highway 3 and find yourself in paradise.
